Presumptive Tax Calculator

Sections 44AD, 44ADA and 44AE, with the 6% digital rate applied properly.

Two rates under 44AD

Receipts through banking channels are presumed at 6%; cash receipts at 8%. A business that collects almost everything digitally is taxed on a quarter less presumed income than one that does not. The split is per receipt, not an either-or election.

The five-year lock

Opting out of 44AD after opting in bars you from the scheme for the next five assessment years, and brings audit obligations with it. The choice deserves more thought than it usually gets.

Nothing further is deductible

The presumed rate is deemed to be after every expense and after depreciation. You cannot claim rent, salaries or interest on top of it. Depreciation is deemed to have been allowed, so the written down value still reduces each year for a future sale.

Advance tax

One instalment, due 15 March. Missing it attracts 234C on the whole amount.

Frequently asked questions

Can I declare less than the presumed rate?
Yes, but then you must maintain books and get them audited under section 44AB, whatever your turnover.
Is 44ADA available to every professional?
Only to the specified professions — legal, medical, engineering, architecture, accountancy, technical consultancy, interior decoration and a few notified others.
Does the higher turnover limit apply automatically?
No. It applies only where cash receipts stay within 5% of total turnover.
